AMS Presents at Farming Systems Design Conference

Poster presentation for the agriculture industry focused on innovative methods for controlling costs by reducing nitrate and water loss

PILOT POINT, TX – August 23, 2009 – Advanced Microbial Solutions, LLC (AMS), a leading agricultural technology company, today presented at the Farming Systems Design Conference in Monterey, California. Dr. Bob Ames, Director of Applied Sciences of AMS, delivered a poster presentation on ways to reduce nitrate and water loss, which can lead to enhanced fertilizer efficiency and increase yields.

“This conference is an important gathering of researchers, growers and industry who share the shared goal of developing solutions for changing agriculture needs,” said Ames. “Our goal at AMS is to provide growers with the most effective tools to improve sustainability and increase yields.”

Significant efforts have been made to identify and control factors contributing to nitrate contamination of ground and surface waters from agricultural sources. Microbial inoculants have been shown to increase the growth, yield and nitrogen content of field corn. The AMS fertilizer catalyst platform consists of complex microbial communities that work with the soil to reduce nitrate and water loss, resulting in enhanced nutrient uptake.

Ames’ poster presentation, “Reducing Nitrate and Water Loss Using Microbial Community Fermentation Technology,” showed data from the first year of AMS’ multi-year study on the role of microbial inoculants in reducing nitrate loss in corn. Thirty days after planting, and continuing through subsequent pumpings, there were significant reductions in the amount of water and/or nitrate retained in lysimeter wells in fields treated with AMS’ SoilBuilder product compared to controls. By the end of the season, SoilBuilder significantly reduced the total amount of water and nitrate that leached into the lysimeter wells and significantly increased crop yield.

About AMS
